Brandon Farrell's Notes
Ribera Del Duero and aged Rioja wines have always fascinated me. The best examples from the famed 1982 and 1986 vintages can rival any 1st Growth Bordeaux with an almost scorched earth note. This was my goal in creating this wine, along with staying true to California.
The Martin Ranch Tempranillo aged puncheons were so pretty and focused, highlighting the cold climate of Edna Valley I instantly fell in love tasting it. It was so pure, but despite loving it, I wanted more power. So, I blended 8% of Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles and 2% of the powerhouse grape Petit Verdot from Paso as well. The end result is still a beautiful wine focused on lush red florals and red fruits but with a hint of power and brilliant tannins that linger on the palate. A perfect pairing for a freshly grilled ribeye off the grill. The picture was designed to be a Bull, the Spanish example of luxury dining out on the San Sebastián, enjoying a glass of wine. Hence the wine's name "Lugo Rojo" Luxury Red.
